Creating the perfect harvest home
Don’t you just love the fall season? Pumpkins, hay rides, cooler temperatures, and my absolute favorite — fall decorations! I’m Audrey, a style blogger for Morris Home Furnishings. My family and I live in a classic, well-loved farmhouse that I’ve spent the last five years restoring and upgrading. My home is inspired by nature, with a touch of countryside charm. I combine new purchases with Saturday morning treasure hunt finds: antique, rustic and heirloom pieces that fill our home. I’m excited to start this new adventure of blogging with the Morris team, and I hope you’ll enjoy the read as we discover together the things that make a home great!
Speaking of the farmhouse, Morris Home Furnishings must have had our home in mind when they began developing a new lifestyle brand. They are introducing a design in their showrooms called Farmhouse Chic. It is an inspired collection of furnishings and accessories that has the romantic patina of farmhouse charm. They’ve just introduced the rustic and French country-inspired furniture and accessories to their ever-expanding assortment. I plan to cover an entire blog on that later in the month. But here is a sneak peek – accessories from Magnolia Home by Joanna Gaines (she’s basically my idol in the home design world!) are now available at Morris Home Furnishings!
But for now, fall décor! Transitioning each season always starts in the barn, where I store my — as my husband says — “mind-boggling amount of” storage totes. The totes are filled with decorations for everything from New Year’s to the December holiday time. My absolute favorite decorating weekend (yes, it takes an entire weekend) is in mid-September. This one game-on weekend prepares my home for the few months when we can sit in rockers on the porch, cozy beneath plaid throws, taking in Mother Nature’s colorful display. Mmmmm … I can almost smell the pumpkin latte now!
I like to bring the outdoors in when decorating for every seasonal holiday but especially during the fall. Lucky me — I live on four acres, complete with a wheat field, pumpkin patch and fields of wildflowers. I use as much as I can from our property, with the exception of a few store-bought ceramic and burlap pumpkins. But my fave is one that’s adorned with glitter and pheasant feathers. (I just HAD to have it!) The pumpkins lined up along our porch and in the house are from our very own property.
Texture, texture, texture. I can’t say it enough. The best way to change the look and feel of your home is by mixing different textures, using a variety of materials and finishes. Multiple textures and finishes are incorporated together to reflect the ultimate definition of Farmhouse Chic.
Fall offers many great textures – burlap, wood, pine cones, leaves and hay, all of which we are lucky enough to have available at all times! We re-created this fall-fabulous pinecone centerpiece – paired with a rustic milk can, wheat bunches, a few decorative pumpkins and leaves. For more great centerpiece and other fun fall decorating ideas, check out the Morris Home Furnishings Pinterest Board – Fall Trends, where I’ve pinned some inspiration for your harvest home.
Introducing a fall vibe to our living room space is a bit more elaborate. I always change out my mantel decorations to complement each season. During harvest time, a leaf garland, wood candles and pumpkins galore adorn the mantel, waiting for the season’s first crackling fire. I also bring in a tree that occupies a space on our porch during the warm months and decorate it with twinkle lights, plaid bows and burlap ornaments.
Finally comes the kitchen, the place where our family gathers most often to enjoy meals, laughter and sometimes dancing! The table takes center stage; it becomes a feast for the eyes with more pumpkins, gourds and sunflowers. I like touches of autumn to be found everywhere, so I include hand-crafted signs on the wall and this centerpiece on the island.
It has been so nice to meet you! Thank you for allowing me to spend a few moments with you sharing my favorite harvest decorating looks.
